Parent/Teacher Organization or Association (often called PTA, PTO or PTSA) plan fundraisers for their school. PTA’s / PTO’s help to raise funds to help support educational efforts for the children.
 
There are a wide variety of fundraisers that the PTA and PTO groups can choose from. Some schools have a candy sale or a gift catalog sale. Some of the schools have back to school parties, school carnivals, fall festivals, holiday shoppes or fairs as a major family fun event and fundraiser.
 
PTA's and PTO's are not-for-profit organizations that are run independent of the school and have their own rules and by-laws for which they most follow. A PTA or PTO cannot run within the school without the permission of the principal.
 
The PTA / PTO President needs to involve as many parents as possible to serve at their children’s school. Unequivocally, and academically, socially, and behaviorally, schools and kids with involved parents outperform schools and kids with uninvolved parents. Getting this message out to the families is the most important step in building involvement with parents.
